Inaugural Chancellor’s Award in Entrepreneurial Studies
Amruth Sriperumbudur is a senior (class of 2021) at Carolina double majoring in Computer Science and Statistics & Analytics with a minor in Entrepreneurship. He came to Carolina from the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics. During his freshman year at UNC, he worked part-time at a start-up that was launched out of Launch Chapel Hill (Quantworks) as an analytics intern and fell in love with the start-up life. Amruth’s instructors agree — he embodies the spirit of entrepreneurial thinking in both his classroom activities and in his extracurricular applications.
During the Shuford “Away” program in the Spring of 2020, he got to understand what it takes to be an entrepreneur while working at the World of Zing, a pre-batched bottled cocktail start-up in London, and through the innovative classes and experiences. He recently started Aapki – a platform where fans can request personal video messages from their favorite South Asian celebrities. Imagine Priyanka Chopra congratulating your best friend on graduating or Shah Rukh Khan wishing your parents well on their anniversary! He raised a small seed round which allowed him to get started. When asked about the Aapki experience, Amruth said “I honestly relied a lot on notes I took during the Shuford program to pitch, navigate raising funding, and choose the right partners. I kept a detailed journal of my first real experience as a founder so that I can learn from my mistakes and be better prepared for next time!”
After graduation, Amruth will join Procter & Gamble as an Account Executive. He wants to get back to startups one day soon! In the picture, Amruth is holding the plaque he received with his award. He will also receive a cash award in recognition of his achievements. Congratulations, Amruth!
