Apply to the Entrepreneurship Minor

The Entrepreneurship Minor provides students with real-world hands-on learning experiences, connecting them with industry leaders and innovators, mentorship opportunities, and the skills needed to think and act entrepreneurially in any industry. Our interdisciplinary learning environment and cross campus partnerships make the Entrepreneurship Minor a complement to any major.

Upcoming Application Cycles

Applications open on the first day of class each fall and spring semester and close three weeks later.

  • Fall 2025: Opens Monday, August 18th in ConnectCarolina, Closes Monday, September 8th at 11:59pm
  • Spring 2026: Opens Wednesday, January 7th in ConnectCarolina, Closes Wednesday, January 28th at 11:59pm

We strongly recommend starting the application process early to ensure ample time for completion. Please note that the request requires overnight processing and therefore must be submitted at least one business day PRIOR to the deadline listed.

We encourage you to settle on your major first if it requires an application through ConnectCarolina BEFORE applying to the Entrepreneurship Minor within the Shuford Program – we do not recommend applying to a major program and the Entrepreneurship Minor during the same term.

Eligibility & Application Requirements

To apply for the Entrepreneurship Minor, you must:

  • Be a sophomore OR junior who has completed at least two terms in residence
    • Transfer semesters count towards terms in residence
    • First Years students are NOT permitted to apply to the minor
  • Be currently enrolled in OR have completed ECON 125 with a grade of C or better
    • The Shuford Program does NOT accept transfer credit for ECON 125 – all students must take ECON 125 at UNC

All applicants will be required to submit the following materials:

  • Personal Statement
  • Optional (but Encouraged) Supplemental Materials

The Suggested Course Progression for the Entrepreneurship Minor is detailed below:

A visual roadmap outlining the required courses, internship requirements, and recommended course progression for students in an entrepreneurship program. The required courses include ECON 125 (Introduction to Entrepreneurship), ECON 325 (Entrepreneurship: Principles, Concepts, Frameworks, and Fluency), ECON 327 (Venture-Creation Workshop), ECON 393 (Practicum in Entrepreneurship), and ECON 101 (Introduction to Economics) or ECON 111 (The Economics of Entrepreneurship and Innovation). The internship requirement states that it must be approved by the Career Development Manager and requires 280 hours of work experience.

The recommended course progression for sophomores includes ECON 125, ECON 101, or ECON 111. For juniors, it includes ECON 325 and an internship. For seniors, the progression includes ECON 327 and ECON 393.

An accelerated track for juniors assumes completion of ECON 125 before junior year, with junior-year coursework including ECON 325, an internship, and ECON 327, while the senior year includes ECON 393 and ECON 101 or ECON 111.
