Elevator Pitch

Mackenzie Thomas’ career sits at the intersection of technology and civic engagement. Her 8+ years at Google are marked by a relentless advocacy for marginalized communities in the development of core products and company-wide initiatives, currently focusing on COVID-19 relief, economic development and gender equity. Previously, Mackenzie led efforts to build innovative public-private partnerships that help millions of Americans return to the civilian workforce, register to vote, and get aid after natural disasters. As a founding member of the Google News Initiative – the company’s effort to empower a sustainable, trusted news ecosystem – Mackenzie collaborated with 100+ publishers, nonprofits, and academic institutions to mitigate the spread of misinformation. As a proud member of the LGBTQ+ community, Mackenzie mobilizes Americans from underrepresented communities to fight systemic inequities. Working hand-in-hand with elected officials, chambers of commerce, and local nonprofits, her efforts drove inclusive housing and education policies in North Carolina and helped accelerate minority-owned small business growth around the world.
