Elevator Pitch
Sherrod Crum founded Mission: Scholarship at 16, a student-led initiative that has helped over 500 students access more than $4 million in scholarship funding, an early lesson in building infrastructure that outlives any effort. That instinct to build carried into his time at UNC-Chapel Hill, where he was deeply embedded in the university’s entrepreneurship ecosystem, as a Shuford Away alum, a 2023 Launch Chapel Hill alum, and an Eship Scholars Program alum. Sherrod started the Black Entrepreneur Initiative at UNC to create the community and access he didn’t see already built for students like him.
He took that same builder’s mindset into his career, serving as the lead strategist at Boston Consulting Group on a $10 million state entrepreneurial development initiative. As Program Manager at SEED SPOT, he lead youth entrepreneurship programming across 11 cities, managing a team of 12 and building partnerships with organizations including gener8tor and WACIF. Sherrod’s social entrepreneurial work continues through Cubator, a venture he founded to close socioeconomic mobility gaps for underserved youth through a proprietary Mobility Score framework, and through Black Men in Venture, which he co-founded to build community and access for Black men pursuing careers in venture capital. On the investing side, he completed the Chicago:Blend VC Fellowship, where he sourced more than 70 startups, wrote 9 investment memos, and developed the Community Matrix, a proprietary framework for evaluating community-driven ventures across seven dimensions.
Sherrod also serves as PPD Chair for the Chicago Urban League’s MetroBoard and on the NULYP national board, extending that same commitment to access into policy and professional spaces. He hold a B.S. in Business Administration from UNC Chapel Hill, with minors in Entrepreneurship and Education. Across every chapter, the throughline has stayed the same, building infrastructure that gives overlooked people and ideas a real path forward.
