The Application
Fall 2024 Applications are closed. Spring 2025 applications will open on Wednesday, January 8th.
The Entrepreneurship Minor within the Shuford Program application has shifted to ConnectCarolina for the Fall 2024 term. Given University guidelines, while students may apply for multiple changes of major/minor during the same term, students may only accept ONE (1) decision in ConnectCarolina per term. We encourage you to settle on your major first if it requires an application through ConnectCarolina BEFORE applying to the Entrepreneurship Minor within the Shuford Program – we do not recommend applying to a major program and the Entrepreneurship Minor within the Shuford Program during the same term. Students who do not accept the decision in ConnectCarolina during their admit term will need to reapply to the program.
Please note, the prerequisite for applying to the Entrepreneurship Minor within the Shuford Program is completion or current enrollment in ECON 125 AND a class standing of sophomore with at least 3 terms in residence (first year students are not eligible to apply). Questions about the application or eligibility? Contact us at shuford@unc.edu.
Before applying, you must first submit an “Apply for Change of Major/Minor” request via ConnectCarolina. The request will open on Monday, August 19th – the first day of classes for the Fall Semester. We STRONGLY advise applicants to begin the process well in advance of the deadline for ample time to complete the various components of the application. Please note that the request requires overnight processing, and therefore must be submitted at least one business day prior to the deadline. Full directions for requesting and completing the application are below.
Step 1: Submit an “Apply for Change of Major/Minor” request via Connect Carolina.
- On or after August 19th, login to ConnectCarolina and proceed to Self Service > Student Center.
- From the “Other Academic” drop-down section adjacent to your class schedule, select “Apply for Change of Major/Minor.”
- Select “Shuford Program in Entrepreneurship Minor” from the Major/Minor drop-down. Make sure to select the upcoming term for the current application cycle.
- If you agree to the terms, click “I Agree” and “Submit Request.” (Please note, this action does not immediately change your current major status. You must be officially accepted to the minor for it to be added to your course of study.)
- Once your change of major/minor request is submitted and processed, you should receive an email within 24 business hours with a link to activate your account and begin the application. If you request your application over the weekend, the request will be processed on the following Monday. Keep an eye on your UNC email’s “junk” folder as the automated email with the activation link might be mistakenly flagged as spam. Please do not cancel your request if you have not received an email. Instead, reach out to UNCSlateSupport@unc.edu. To ensure that your Shuford application is received by the deadline, please request your application no later than Saturday, September 7th at 5:00pm.
Step 2: Complete the application by the deadline, Monday, September 9th at 11:59pm
- You may access your application through the email sent to you after requesting the application or by going to https://applynow.unc.edu/apply/ and logging in with your ONYEN and password.
All students accepted to the Entrepreneurship Minor within the Shuford Program must attend a mandatory new student orientation and will be required to formally accept the decision in ConnectCarolina by the last day of the semester. Students who do not accept the decision in ConnectCarolina during their admit term will need to reapply to the program.
If you encounter technical difficulties, please email shuford@unc.edu. Please be patient as this is a new process for all!
