Fireside chat: “How did we get here… What’s next?” – Darrell M. Gray, II, MD

Darrell M. Gray, II, MD, MPH, FACG is a gastroenterologist, associate professor of medicine, and physician leader at The Ohio State University (OSU). Additionally, he serves as Deputy Director of the Center for Cancer Health Equity at OSU Comprehensive Cancer Center, Medical Director of Healthy Communities for OSU Wexner Medical Center (OSUWMC), and chair of the OSUWMC Health Equity Steering Committee. His work leverages meaningful partnerships across public and private sectors to address health disparities and upstream social determinants of health among diverse populations across the state of Ohio and nationally. As one example, he co-led his health system’s health equity response to COVID-19. More recently, he co-developed the anti-racism action plan for OSU Wexner Medical Center and health sciences colleges. Dr. Gray has received numerous honors for his work including induction into the 2017 class of the National Minority Quality Forum 40 Under 40 Leaders in Health, the 2020 Healio Disruptive Innovator Health Equity Award, and multiple American College of Gastroenterology Awards, to name a few. However, Dr. Gray believes his greatest achievements are being a husband to wife, Brittney, and father to children Harper, Ella, and Noah. Dr. Gray is a native of Baltimore, Maryland and graduate of Morehouse College and Howard University College of Medicine. He completed his residency at Duke University Medical Center, Gastroenterology fellowship at Washington University, and public health training at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health as a Commonwealth Fund Fellow.
